The Senate Finance Committee has advanced Thomas March Bell, a Trump-aligned nominee, for the role of inspector general at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Bell’s nomination, which has raised concerns about his independence due to his strong ties to President Trump and the Republican Party, now moves to the full Senate for confirmation. If confirmed, Bell will oversee investigations into fraud, waste, and abuse within Medicare and Medicaid. His past includes controversial actions, such as leading a probe into Planned Parenthood, which has drawn criticism from various advocacy groups.
