Four Democratic-led states, California, Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesota, have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration to prevent the withholding of $600m in public health grants. The Department of Health and Human Services plans to cut funding, citing a shift away from programs for specific populations. The lawsuit argues these cuts are retaliatory for the states’ opposition to Trump’s immigration policies and violate the Constitution. California faces the largest cuts, which Attorney General Rob Bonta claims will severely impact public health programs addressing HIV and sexually transmitted infections.
