Trump’s Bill Alters Immigrant Benefits Access

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, introduced under President Trump, has changed how immigrants access federal benefits. The bill alters eligibility for programs like Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, and SNAP based on immigration status. Notably, DACA recipients and some other immigrant groups have lost access to certain benefits. The Head Start program now limits eligibility to naturalized citizens, green card holders, refugees, and asylees. Republicans argue these changes prevent illegal use of benefits, while advocates warn of reduced access to essential services for many immigrants. The bill also maintains a five-year wait for new green card holders to access key benefits.
